Inheritance patterns

Genetic diseases are a consequence of alterations or mutations in DNA. These mutations can appear spontaneously (as a de novo mutation) or be transmitted to the offspring following different genetic inheritance patterns:

Autosomal dominant inheritance

Autosomal recessive inheritance

X-linked dominant inheritance

X-linked recessive inheritance

Mitochondrial inheritance
