When there is a suspicion of hereditary gastric cancer it is recommended to analyze all the genes implicated in hereditary syndromes such as hereditary diffuse gastric cancer (HDGC), Lynch syndrome, familial adenomatous polyposis, polyposis associated with MUTYH, or hereditary breast and ovarian cancer syndrome. HDGC represents 1-3% of all gastric cancers. Germinal mutations in CDH1 have been identified in up to 50% of families with HDGC clinical criteria, with a dominant autosomal inheritance pattern.
