Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) has a multifactorial origin, with genetics being one of the factors involved. The main risk factors for its appearance are age itself, a white Caucasian race, smoking, obesity, or cardiovascular diseases, along with the genetic or family component.
Recommended service when, in a young person after having discarded other diagnostic possibilities, is suspected AMD with a genetic predisposition, either due to the absence of other risk factors, the age of onset, and/or family history. This study can help reach an explanation for this disease in patients who do not have obvious risk factors and whose time of onset is earlier than expected.
Indicated when AMD is suspected with a significant genetic predisposition, either due to the absence of other risk factors, the age of onset, and/or family history.

Virtual panel based on whole exome sequencing, aimed at the simultaneous analysis of all genes related to predisposition to AMD based on current knowledge.
Priority Genes: Genes where there is sufficient evidence (clinical and functional) to consider them associated with the disease; they are included in the clinical practice guidelines.
Secondary Genes: Genes related to the disease, but with a lower level of evidence or that constitute sporadic cases.
* Candidate Genes: Not enough evidence in humans, but potentially associated with the disease.
