Towards More Responsible Genomics: Health in Code Sustainability Report 2024

Genética Health in Code

October 24, 2025.

At the Health in Code Group, we understand that our commitment to sustainability is not merely an add-on, but a cross-cutting way of working and serving the health of people and the planet.

In our new 2024 Sustainability Report, we present in a highly detailed and transparent way our latest steps in environmental, social, and governance stewardship.

Measuring and Optimizing: Key Steps to Reduce Our Environmental Impact

Although the nature of the genetic diagnostics sector does not entail large resource consumption or waste generation compared to other industries, we prioritize our commitment to meeting efficiency and responsible management standards. For example, we work on reducing the production of cytotoxic waste and the use of single-use plastics.

Energy is the most essential resource for our operations. For this reason, we have implemented various measures to promote efficient energy use. These initiatives include the installation of cooling equipment and smart lighting systems, which optimize energy consumption by automatically adjusting to the specific needs at any given time.

Our A Coruña headquarters already operates on 100% renewable energy through an electricity supply contract with ENI Plenitude. In addition, thanks to our photovoltaic installations in Valencia and Granada, we are generating over 100,000 kWh of clean electricity in 2024, equivalent to the annual consumption of 25 households and avoiding approximately 25 tons of CO₂ emissions.

These are just some of the commitments recognized under the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System certification, which governs our operations.

Strengthening Our Code of Ethics and Focus on People

In the social sphere, we have continued to promote policies that foster equity and respect for fundamental rights. We strictly follow our Equality Plan and Code of Ethics, have established a Sustainability Committee, and formalized our Health, Wellbeing, and Occupational Risk Prevention Policy.

In 2024, we allocated €80,000 in donations to educational programs in collaboration with scientific societies, and nearly €100,000 to sponsor more than 40 conferences. During 2024, we also implemented the ISO 45001 standard, integrating an Occupational Health and Safety Management System.

Equality, human rights, and workplace wellbeing policies are at the core of our philosophy.

Good Governance: The Pillar of Sustainability

We are committed to ethical leadership, where the pursuit of quality and excellence drives us to innovate with the most efficient and responsible technology, always with the utmost respect for transparency and data protection.

A particularly significant step in this journey has been our accession to the United Nations Global Compact, a global initiative that commits us to align our actions with ten universal principles regarding human rights, labor standards, the environment, and anti-corruption. This commitment reinforces our dedication to actively contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals and exercising responsible leadership.

The mission, values, and philosophy of the Health in Code Group make it clear that people are at the center, and that quality, innovation, and excellence are our guiding principles. To ensure this wellbeing and development, we must take care of our activities, our environment, and, of course, our planet.
